‘Glanbia 300’ 2021 a major success for all involved
Sixty two Glanbia Ireland employees who set off on Cycle 300 and have surpassed their €40,000 fundraising tally for Breast Cancer Ireland, The Samaritans and Teac Tom
The energetic bunch embarked on 100 and 150km journeys in drizzly, misty conditions which took them down to south Kilkenny, skirting Waterford and Tipperary before returning to Glanbia House on Friday afternoon.
Cycle sponsor, Jim O’Neill, commended everyone. “Major fundraising events like this just don’t happen. It takes a huge team effort behind the scenes. We want to thank all the cyclists who put in Trojan effort to train and take part; the volunteers who helped at Glanbia House and along the way and everyone who contributed in any way to spread the word and to raise money.
“These are three fantastic charities and their fundraising efforts have been severely impacted by the pandemic. It’s still not too late for people to donate. Giving back to the community is a key pillar in Living Proof, our Glanbia Ireland sustainability strategy, and we’re proud to report we have now raised over €280,000 to date for charity through our cycle.”
Angela Hayes from Teac Tom thanked Glanbia. “We provide free counselling and support in the Kilkenny and south east area. We normally have our own fundraising and awareness events but unfortunately due to COVID, events are hampered and restricted. This is a huge fundraising effort and it is invaluable to us and allows us keep the doors of Teac Tom open. This is about raising awareness as much as it is about the donations.
Juliette O’Connell from Breast Cancer Ireland said the support is very much appreciated. “I’m a breast cancer survivor. Today means so much to us and we are very grateful for Glanbia Ireland’s support. It is so important that we raise funds for pioneering research and our education and awareness programme. We have spoken to over 20,000 women and young girls virtually over the past eight months and we have seen some new cases diagnosed. We are very grateful to work with Glanbia through the Great Pink Run and the employee engagement programme.”
Colette Shannon from Samaritans said they have never been busier. “We answer calls from people in distress, in crisis or in need of assistance. Fundraising and volunteerism have been impacted by COVID – lots of our volunteers have had to cocoon. This donation is going to go a long way in supporting us. The Samaritans Helpline has been inundated by people feeling helpless, lonely and lost. We’ve answered almost half a million calls throughout the pandemic.”
